Welcome to Bailing Out Benji!

A site where you can read anything and everything pet related.

People are constantly asking, “What is Bailing Out Benji”.

This blog… The facebook page… The group.. It is all about education- enlightening my readers and giving the individual person the power to change the lives of the animals around them.

I am not an activist, I am an advocate. I will always do what is right by the animals.

What I am trying to do with each article is educate, update and inform readers (Iowans and non-Iowans alike) on animal laws,  stories and events, in hopes that we can get the ball rolling for tougher legislation to protect our companion animals.  And by “everything” animal related, I mean it… I write about less than savory shelters, bad dog breeders, even local zoos that aren’t the greatest. I am not biased.

Education is the key to getting our problems solved– so please share this with all of your friends AND always leave feedback :) I care deeply about these issues, and I want everyone feel involved!

  1. We’ve always adopted from shelters or rescue groups. You can find puppy mill retirees that devoted breed rescue groups have saved! There are rescues like Mae & Bette, our two shy seven-year old puppy mill mommy retirees (retired 1 year and 3 years). They needed a home and are getting lots of loving and learning with us. It takes a lot of patience and deliberate socialization, but these lucky Wheaten girls are quite the wiggle-butts now! It is easier to teach them when you have a “normal” dog to help show the way life should be. Unfortunately we lost 10-year old Bailey last month to spleen cancer, but it’s great how Bette Boo! has stepped up to show Mae Mobley the house rules! :D !H

  2. I have rescued for many many yrs… until my health went down hill… I had one rescue that was to travel with me but she was killed 2 yrs ago by a wild dog …. so the last 2 yrs have been a torched life not having a rescue or rescueing.. I told myself I would still keep reposting for rescues so I would still be in that world… Well whole posting for one of my may rescues.. I saw 2 very sweet faces.. one little floppy ear girl who was a mill rescue and one mill rescue that had the hugest smile!!!!.. well I wanted a little girl but by the time i flew home she was adopted.. but as soon as i saw that smile in person, Paco stole my heart for good.. The mill had told the rescuen that he was 4 yrs old.. loast his teeth from wet food and nawing on his bars.. well after getting him to the vet. he has joint problems, and a partial collaps trakia… and cateracs so they suspect he was more of 8- 11 yrs… doesnt matter… I love him with all my heart.. and everyone that meets him falls for him too.. from yrs of being in a kennel just big enough to turn around in… to flying the world… he has come along way!!!
